UAV data link is an important part of UAV system, and it is the link between aircraft and ground system. UAV data link can be divided into uplink and downlink according to transmission direction. Uplink mainly completes the sending and receiving of remote control instructions from ground station to UAV, while downlink mainly completes the sending and receiving of telemetry data (flight control) and video images (image transmission) from UAV to ground station, and uses uplink and downlink for ranging according to the transmission of positioning information. The performance of data link directly affects the performance of UAV. According to the time and function, the UAV data link is divided into three stages:
The first stage: data transmission, which is mainly used for data transmission between flight control and ground stations. The main purpose is to adjust parameters, telemetry data and remote monitoring. Moreover, parameters can be adjusted during flight and flight data of flight control can be transmitted back, but large-capacity data cannot be transmitted.
The second stage: image transmission, which is used to meet the needs of high-resolution image/video real-time transmission for aerial photography, maintenance, measurement, mapping and monitoring. The UAV needs to be equipped with a wireless communication module that can realize wireless image transmission. At this stage, the image transmission mainly adopts two technologies: WiFi image transmission and COFDM radio image transmission. WiFi image transmission has the characteristics of low cost and small size, and it is quickly popularized in consumer drones. However, WiFi technology is designed for indoor static close range, and its transmission distance is only a few hundred meters, so it cannot be transmitted over a long distance. And the mechanism of WiFi carrier sense determines that it cannot be used reliably in multi-unit networks. COFDM radio station follows DVB broadcasting technology, which has high spectrum efficiency and long transmission distance, and can be applied to industrial UAVs with long-distance transmission. However, COFDM radio station generally adopts one-way broadcast transmission, which can not be used in networking, and the cost is very high. At present, it is gradually replaced by LTE image transmission with networking capability.
The third stage: digital and graphic transmission, multi-unit network. Traditional data transmission and image transmission all adopt independent modules, which occupy a large volume and consume a large amount of power. The new data link graph integrates data transmission, wide and narrow bands share wireless links, and the uplink and downlink are transmitted in both directions, which improves the efficiency of spectrum use. Single module supports serial port, network port, USB, HDMI and other interfaces; Serial port is used for data transmission, and network port, USB port and HDMI port are used for image transmission. With the rapid popularization of power line inspection, highway inspection, border inspection, surveying and mapping, fire prevention and other industries, the single-control single-machine mode can no longer meet the requirements. On the basis of two-way networking, multi-machine and multi-station networking is required.
